John Christian: The Creator
JC Sorella’s founder, John “Jack” Christian Potter, discovered his passion for creating jewelry while in middle School in the suburbs of St. Louis, MO. At just 12 years-old he engraved his initials into a smooth, shiny sterling silver band created from nothing more than a silver dollar and an old hammer. He still wears that ring today to remind him there is no limit to his mind’s creativity.
From there, Jack started his own word-of-mouth business where he designed and produced pieces for friends and family. The elegance in his products mirrored that of the jewelry industry’s well-established professionals. As his interests in the field grew, he began working part-time for a local jeweler, where he expanded his knowledge of the industry, something rare at such a young age.
After Jack graduated high school, he put his passion on pause to attend the University of Dayton in Ohio. However, it didn’t take long for Jack to realize traditional path of those in their early 20’s wasn’t for him. After a year and a half, Jack returned to his calling: jewelry. To the confusion of his peers, he dropped out of college and was quickly recruited by St. Louis industry lead, Genovese Jewelers. At Genovese, Jack worked on a variety of projects, creating everything from exquisite high-end jewelry to everyday, intimate designs. He now aspires to take what he has learned and share it with the world through JC Sorella.
